Abstract

In this report a suspected case of 'Lumpy jaw' in a 5 year old Bunaji - Simmental cross bull was presented to the College Veterinary Clinic of Binyaminu Usman College of Agriculture, Hadejia, with chief complaint of anorexia and swelling in the right mandible. The temperature, pulse and respiratory rates were 39.2°C, 72 beat/minute and 27 cycles/minutes respectively. Palpation of the swelling in mandible indicated painless and firmness. Results from bacteriological investigation revealed the presence of Gram positive star shaped filaments (club like rosettes) in crushed granules of the swelling content. Management consistsof draining, flushing and packing the lesion with gauze soaked intincture iodine solution and administration of antibiotics.
