Abstract

The study assessed the challenges of small scale quail production in Bauchi state. Data were collected using structured questionnaires. 90 quail farmers made up the sample size. Descriptive statistics such as frequency distribution and percentages were used to analyze the data collected. Results showed that quail farmers were within the age of 20-40 years (66.60%) and majority of them have secondary school education (33.33%). Most of the quail farmers has less than 5 family members (36.60%) and earned less than 15,000 per month (43.30%). Small scale operation 51-100 quails (50%) is one of the major constrain, coupled with problems of sourcing day old quails (73.30%). Feeding, control of pest and diseases and marketing of the quail products (46.60%) were among the major problems identified. Improving quail production in Bauchi state entails good management, proper feeding and housing. control of pest and diseases and creating awareness on the importance of quail products to improve the marketing.
