Résumé

Browse plants are important fodder resources for ruminant. The secondary metabolites in them are potential source of antimicrobial drugs with reference to antibacterial agent. This study was designed to determine the phytochemical constituents and antibacterial activity of Albizia saman leaves (ASL) and Tithonia diversifolia leaves (TDL) against four bacterial species using Agar well diffusion method. Concentration of alkaloids (14.85 and 12,45mg/g) were higher in both plants. Acetone and ethanol extracts of ASL and TDL exhibited maximum zone of inhibition against Staphylococcus aureus (19.00mm and 14.50mm; 23.00mm and 21.50mm) and Pseudomonas aeruginosa (15.50mm and 12.00mm; 18.50mm and 17.00mm) compared with the reference antibiotics, Gentamycin (9.97mm). Albizia saman and Tithonia diversifolia leaves exhibited a broad spectrum antibacterial properties against pathogenic bacterials for ruminants
